French lawyer Juan Branco will be deported to France after being charged in Senegal

Franco-Spanish lawyer Juan Branco, charged and imprisoned this Sunday in Dakar, was placed under judicial supervision on Monday and is in the process of being deported to France, said one of his lawyers and a senior official at the Senegalese Justice ministry.

Juan Branco, who came to Senegal to take part in the defense of the Senegalese opponent Ousmane Sonko, was then arrested in Mauritania after several days of research, and handed over to the Senegalese authorities.

“He was taken out of prison this morning and presented to the judge who notified him of his placement under judicial supervision”, declared Mes Robin Binsard and Yassine Bouzrou, his lawyers in Paris.

“Mr Branco is in a police station to be taken to the airport. He is exhausted but relieved to be released,” added Robin Binsard.

This information was confirmed by a senior source from the Ministry of Justice.
