Ivory Coast mourns former President Henri Konan Bédié

Former Ivorian President Henri Konan Bédié died Tuesday (August 1st) at the age of 89, local media reported.

It comes on Tuesday when the former president, who was in Daoukro, his native village, became unwell.

Evacuated to PISAM in Abidjan around 6 p.m., he died few hours later.

Head of state from 1993 to 1999, Henri Konan Bédié had not ruled out being a candidate in the next presidential election in his country.

He had been designated at the end of March as the sole candidate for his succession to the presidency of the Democratic Party of Ivory Coast (PDCI).
