Nigerian President appoints special investigator for the Central Bank

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has appointed Jim Obazee as a special investigator to investigate activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other related entities.

In a letter dated July 28, Mr. Tinubu said the appointment of Mr. Obazee, based on the fundamental objective stated in Article 15 (5) of the Nigerian constitution, was in the pursuit of his administration’s fight against corruption, PREMIUM TIMES reported.

The appointment is effective immediately and Mr. Obazee reports directly to the President.

Former Managing Director of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) before being dismissed in 2017, Mr Obaaze is ordered to investigate the CBN and associated entities using a suitably experienced, competent and capable team and to work with relevant security and anti-corruption agencies to carry out the assignment.
