Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered a helicopter to the President of Zimbabwe, the country’s government announced on Thursday, as the Russian leader seeks support from African leaders meeting in St Petersburg.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is among African leaders taking part in the two-day Russia-Africa summit.
“His Excellency President Putin has presented a Presidential Helicopter to His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Information wrote on social media.
It posted photos of Emmerson Mnangagwa walking down the steps of the aircraft and sitting in the cabin in front of a table laden with glasses of white wine and a bowl of fruit.
“This bird will soon be in our skies,” government spokesman Nick Mangwana wrote on Twitter, renamed X.
