Senegalese President, Macky Sall has condemned the ongoing military coup d’État in Niger, calling for the security and safety of President Mohamed Bazoum.
In a message on Twitter, the former head of the African Union condemned the coup, called for the security and safety of President Bazoum as well as the restoration of constitutional order.
“I strongly condemn the military coup in Niger against a democratically elected president. The seizure of power by force is unacceptable. The security and safety of President @mohamedbazoum and his family must be preserved and constitutional order restored,” the president tweeted.
Soldiers said on national television on Wednesday that they had carried out a coup, dissolved the constitution, suspended all institutions and closed the nation’s borders.
