Soldier killed several people at his son’s funeral

A Congolese soldier has opened fire during the funeral of his son, resulting in a number of deaths in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to reports.

At least 13 people, including 10 children were killed in the shootout during the funeral.

“The soldier opened fire on all those around him,” Ituri army spokesman Jules Ngongo said.

“After his attack, the soldier fled the scene,” reports said.

An investigation has been launched into the motives behind the shooting, however the soldier has not yet been found by the authorities.

“The soldier who opened fire seemed to fear that his child would be buried without him,” according to village chief Oscar Baraka Muguwa.
