More than 400 mass shootings recorded in 2023 in the US

The United States surpassed 400 mass shootings in 2023, setting the stage for a record year, according to a report by Gun Violence Archive.

A figure reached on Saturday, underlines CNN, bringing the number of mass shootings to 406, a record since 2013.

If the current progression continues and given that there are five months left in 2023, the year could be the deadliest on record, while the first records of this nature date from 2013.

At least 24,259 people have been killed, including 13,530 by firearm suicide, since the start of the year.

According to CNN, the number of mass shootings in 2023 has consistently exceeded previous years, averaging nearly two shootings per day.

The country has more individual weapons than inhabitants: one in three adults owns at least one weapon and nearly one in two adults lives in a home where there is a weapon.
