Clervie Ngounoue becomes world number one in tennis

Cameroonian Clervie Ngounoue, a 16-year-old girl won the junior doubles title at Roland-Garros in France with her partner Tyra Grant.

Clervie Ngounoue, born in the USA to Cameroonian parents, has a promising future ahead of her.

The two players, seeded sixth, took turns to beat top seed Alina Korneeva and Sarah Saito (6-3, 6-2) in the final.

With this victory, Clervie Ngounoue wins her second junior Grand Slam title after her triumph at last year’s Australian Open with Diana Shnaider.

“For my first Grand Slam tournament, it was a great experience. I’m so happy to have been able to play doubles with Clervie… It was incredible,” her partner Grant commented.

Clervie Ngounoue trained at the Metropolitan Tennis and Education Group USTA Foundation NJTL chapter of Silver Spring and the USTA Foundation Excellence Team.
