US President Joe Biden calls for an end to gun violence

The US President called on Tuesday, the US National Day, to end the “epidemic of gun violence” after a “wave” of killings, and a year to the day after a shooting that occurred during a ‘a parade.

“Last year, a man opened fire during a parade organized near Chicago, Illinois for the national holiday of July 4, killing seven and injuring dozens, transforming this day of patriotic pride in “tragedy”, recalled Joe Biden.

Monday evening, a new shooting broke out in the streets of Philadelphia (northeastern United States) killing five people, aged 15 to 59 according to the police, who announced that they had arrested the alleged perpetrator.

The latter was armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and shot his victims “apparently at random”, according to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw.

Faced with this “wave” of killings, the Democratic president once again pleaded for a strong response to stem “this epidemic of gun violence”.
