Senegal: ousmane sonko speaks out at last

Ousmane Sonko has appeared in a video for his first public statement since he was sentenced to 2 years in prison for corruption of youth on June 1, 2023.

Ousmane Sonko addressed his audience in Wolof, thanking the religious guide who had offered him a sheep.

He was dressed in a navy blue polo shirt on the balcony of his Dakar home in the Cité Keur Gorgui district.

He then evoked the Koran and the Bible, wishing his compatriots a happy holiday.

Blocked at home since the end of May, the opponent claims to be “sequestered” by the defense and security forces.

The government refutes this accusation, referring to a “public order” measure.
