France: Macron will not run for a 3rd term

The French president was clear and precise on the question of a possible third term at the head of France, raised by former National Assembly president Richard Ferrand.

The President of the Élysée Palace has no intention of exceeding his two constitutional terms at the head of France.

While former National Assembly president Richard Ferrand called on June 19 for the constitutionally-imposed two-term presidential limit to be lifted, President Emmanuel Macron has beaten back the possibility of a third term.

“The French men and women have done me the singular honor of trusting me twice by giving me the means to act. I’m rather obsessed by the fact that the actions I set in motion and the decisions I take are for the long term,” Macron told reporters at the Élysée Palace.

Having arrived at the head of the country in 2017, Emmanuel Macron is currently seeking his final term at the helm, which ends in 2027.
