Belarusian President asked Putin not to kill Wagner leader

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has asked his counterpart Vladimir Putin not to kill Wagner Group leader Evguéni Prigozhin despite having the power to do so.

Alexander Lukashenko is said to have played a key role in easing tensions between Moscow and the Wagner Group. The Belarusian president spoke in a video broadcast by the Telegram channel close to the presidency, Pool Pervogo. He announced the arrival of Evguéni Prigojine, the leader of the militia, on his soil this Tuesday.

Also in this same speech, Alexander Lukashenko gave information on his exchanges with Vladimir Putin. He reportedly mediated and said he urged Russia not to kill Wagner’s leader.

“I told Putin: we can kill him, it’s not a problem. Either on the first attempt or on the second. But I said: don’t do it,” assured the Belarusian president.

Still according to the leader, Evguéni Prigojine obtained “security guarantees” before his arrival in Belarus.
