WhatsApp has unveiled “Chat lock”, an option that aims to improve the confidentiality of exchanges by conditioning their access to a password or biometric authentication.
With “Chat lock”, WhatsApp intends to offer an additional alternative to its users to better protect their privacy. This new feature, announced on May 15, will make access to a private conversation only possible by entering a PIN code or biometric data stored on the device (fingerprint or facial recognition).
Once enabled, the selected chat will appear in a separate secure folder from other conversations. Notifications related to this exchange will now be hidden and multimedia content (videos, photos, music, etc.) will no longer be stored by default in the phone and in the photo gallery.
It should also be noted that the feature is currently being rolled out and is not yet available on all smartphones.
How to lock a private conversation
- On WhatsApp, open the chat you want to lock.
- Once the chat is open, tap the person’s name or photo at the top of the screen to open the “Contact Info” page.
- Once on the “Contact Info” page, choose the “Chat Lock” option from the menu.
