Ghana: John Mahama elected NDC flag bearer for the next elections

Former Ghanaian President John Mahama has been elected as the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the country’s largest opposition party, for next year’s elections.

The former president was declared the winner on Sunday after securing 98.9% of the total valid votes in the party’s primaries held on Saturday.

His landslide victory was against his main competitor, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu.

In a Facebook post after his victory, Mr. Mahama, who served as Vice President and President of Ghana, called for unity within the party.

This will be the third time that the former president will attempt a return to the supreme magistracy.

He lost power in the 2016 elections to incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo, who ends his two-term term next year.
