Zelensky calls for creation of a special court for crime of aggression

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the creation of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression, during a speech of about twenty minutes given this Thursday during an unannounced visit to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“We all want to see another Vladimir here in The Hague,” he said, referring to the arrest warrant issued by the ICC against Vladimir Putin and their common first name.

“There should be responsibility for this crime of aggression, the beginning of evil”, he said during this speech to diplomats and other officials.

“This can only be applied by the court”, he stressed.

However, the ICC does not have the power to try crimes of aggression against Russia, which is not a signatory to the Rome Statute.
