Ghana: farmer jailed for stealing water pumps

The Hohoe Circuit Court has sentenced a 29 year-old farmer to one-year imprisonment for stealing two old water pumping machines in Ghana, reports said.

“The complainant had left some old water pumping machines in the store and was later called to come in and identify some water pumping machines,” the prosecutor said.

“He found that two of the water pumping machines that were brought to him for repair had been stolen,” the prosecutor added.

He then went to the convict’s home, where he identified the two machines.

“The convict was caught with the machines as he was negotiating with a scrap metal dealer who was passing by,” witnesses said.

Inspector Agyapomaa said they arrested and sent the convict to the police station with the machines, where a formal complaint was filed.

The convict denied stealing the machines from the complainant’s workshop during initial investigations, but later admitted the crime.
