President Macky Sall has appointed Fatou Fall to the rank of general in the Senegalese army, Senegalese Defense Minister Sidiki Kaba announced.

Fatou Fall thus becomes the first woman to obtain this rank.

“The President of the Republic had to make 3 important appointments of generals, but the flagship appointment is the appointment of the doctor-colonel Mrs. Fatou Fall who becomes the first woman general in Senegal. “

“This is historic. We wish her good luck, as well as those who have also been appointed,” said the minister on the sidelines of the installation ceremony of the new Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Mbaye Cissé.

The colonel doctor is a graduate of Cheikh Anta Diop University and the University of Abidjan (Ivory Coast) where she studied hepatology and gastroenterology.

Fatou Fall joined the army in 1985 and before her appointment was head of the hepatology and gastroenterology department at the main hospital in Dakar.
