US assesses risks of leaking confidential documents

Authorities in the United States are trying to assess the risks of leaking classified documents, which include the Russian invasion of Ukraine, to its national security, the Pentagon said on Sunday.

This leak of secret documents, revealed last week by the New York Times, concerns in particular assessments and reports by American intelligence services linked to the war in Ukraine, but also to the allies of the United States.

“Inter-agency cooperation has been initiated to assess the impact that (the leak of) these photographed documents may have on national security and on our allies and partners,” Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said.

The Ministry of Justice, which opened an investigation on Saturday, is trying to identify the source of the leaks and is still examining the validity of the documents released.

According to the Washington Post, citing US officials, some appear to have been doctored. But most correspond to CIA reports circulating at the White House, the Pentagon or the State Department, says the same source.
