Paul Kagame re-elected as head of his party

The Rwandan president, Paul Kagame has done well as he was re-elected as head of his party, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), at the 35th International Congress.

It is by an overwhelming majority of 99.8% that President Paul Kagame was re-elected for a five-year term at the head of the Rwandan Patriotic Front.

A founding member of the party, the head of state faced only one other candidate, Abdul Karim Harerimana, a former member of parliament who was appointed Rwanda’s ambassador to Indonesia in late March.

The 25 commissioners and the rest of the executive committee were also elected on Sunday.

Paul Kagame, who has been in power for 23 years, has not yet made a definitive statement on his possible candidacy for a new presidential term.
