Two dead and 16 injured in a train accident in Egypt

At least two people died and 16 others were injured in a train crash in the town of Qalioub, north of Cairo, on Tuesday, the Egyptian health ministry said.

Initially, the ministry reported in a press release “one death and 16 injured”, six of whom have already been treated.

It spoke shortly after of “two dead in the Qalioub train accident”, specifying that the injured were in “stable condition”.

For its part, the National Authority of Egyptian Railways indicated that, when the train entered Qalioub station, “the driver crossed the closed semaphore and the train continued its march beyond the finish line hitting the knocker at the end of the lane.”

Attorney General Hamada Saoui has decided, according to an official statement, “to set up a team to investigate the accident”.
