Thousands demonstrate against abolition of a public holiday

Danish government’s project to abolish a public holiday does not pass with many inhabitants of the country, who have decided to take to the streets this Sunday.

This is a rare fact that is not in their habits.

The movement is led by the Confederation of Danish Trade Unions (FH), which has 1.3 million members, or nearly a quarter of the 5.9 million inhabitants.

Several thousand people gathered outside the Danish parliament in Copenhagen on Sunday. “Preserve our holidays”, “Anti-democratic bullshit”, “Vote no”… could we read on the various signs.

“It’s a big threat to the Danish model. Politicians should stay out of issues that concern work. And there, they will just impose themselves and violate our agreements”, protested at the end of January Lizette Risgaard, president of F H.
