Devanshi Sanghvi, heiress of the jewelry business Sanghvi and Sons in the Indian city of Surat (Gujarat, west) has decided to give up her fortune to become a nun in a strict religious order of the Jain faith.
Renouncing a fortune of millions of dollars in diamonds, the eight-year-old Indian girl will enter a strict religious order.
Until this week, Devanshi Sanghvi was the heiress of the jewelry business Sanghvi and Sons in the city of Surat (Gujarat, west) , locally known as the “diamond city” for its importance in world trade.
On Wednesday, she arrived at a temple to exchange her expensive clothes for a simple white cotton outfit, after having her head shaved.
Her parents said she was looking forward to becoming a nun, according to local media.
Her family are members of the Jain religion, founded in India in the 6th century BC, which preaches non-violence, asceticism, strict vegetarianism and love for all creatures.
