Burkina Faso exports to the United States will now be taxed

Burkina Faso no longer benefits from the U.S. law allowing African countries to export to the United States without paying customs duties as a result of the country’s current socio-political situation.

Burkina Faso has just been excluded from AGOA.

Following the January 2022 coup, the United States had already terminated the Millennium Challenge Account, an economic cooperation and investment program with Burkina Faso; representing a loss of approximately $500 million.

Burkina is also excluded from the MCA’s regional program for a similar amount.

Concerned about the ongoing unconstitutional changes in the country, Washington plans to propose to Burkina Faso’s leaders in the coming days ways to reinstate the trade agreement.
