Two people was confirmed dead in armed clashes in the city of Sabratha, west of the capital, Tripoli, Libya, according to reports.
“So far we have not determined whether the victims are civilians or military,” reports said.
Anadolu Agency’s correspondent said the Libyan Red Crescent has opened a safe corridor to allow trapped families to leave the area.
“The coastal road from Tripoli to the Tunisian border has been closed after this incident,” he added.
A number of disputes among Libya’s official institutions, particularly over the two pieces of legislation governing the elections, prevented the polls from being held under a UN-supervised plan.
Libyans hope the elections will help end the armed conflict that has ravaged their rich country for more than a decade.
The United Nations is working to reach a Libyan consensus on a constitutional basis under which parliamentary and presidential elections will be held.
