Coup attempt foiled in Sao Tome and Principe

Sao Tome and Principe Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada announced that a coup attempt had been foiled on Thursday evening.

Individuals had attacked the headquarters of the army, he said at the time of his exit.

This coup attempt was aborted thanks to the effective and professional reaction of the security forces.

As a result of the clashes, one soldier was injured.

The assailants and their accomplices were arrested and investigation has been opened.

According to the head of government, the attackers were linked to the “Buffalo Battalion,” a South African mercenary group disbanded in 1993 by Pretoria, and their objective was to seize weapons.
