Nigeria: several dead in boat accident in Sokoto State

At least 15 people have died in a boat accident in Shagari Local Government Area in Nigeria’s Sokoto State as the boat they were in was en route to Maulaudi.

The local government’s Chairman, Aliyu Shagari, said the incident happened on Tuesday evening and confirmed the death of 15 people.

Cases of boat accident have been recurring in Shagari region lately, local media reported.

The boat was carrying 25 people when the accident happened and 15 were confirmed dead.

State Governor Aminu Tambuwal expressed his condolences to the families and promised to provide life jackets that will help prevent drowning in the event of such an accident.
