Ghana: children rescued from trafficking to Ivory Coast

A 14-year-old pregnant girl and other children were rescued from being trafficked from the central region to Ivory Coast, Joynews agency reported citing James Kofi Annan, CEO of Challenging Heights.

Mr Annan said the rescued children consisted of six girls and 18 boys, with one of the girls pregnant when she was 14 years old.

“The trafficked girls were expected to undergo forced labor and forced marriages,” rescuers said.

Annan said this latest operation brings the total number of children the organization has rescued to 57 this year.

He expressed gratitude to the Ghana Police Service, the Department of Social Welfare, the Ghana Navy, and others for their selfless dedication to the cause of the most vulnerable people in the society.
