Oulimata Sarr first woman appointed economy minister in Senegal

Senegalese President Macky Sall has appointed Oulimata Sarr as head of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, replacing Amadou Hott, a first in this country.

The former regional director of UN Women for West and Central Africa is placed at the head of such a strategic portfolio, against the backdrop of the global economic crisis. It is a huge challenge for this lady who has no political roots.

“She is from another planet. International institutions and state management are not the same world,” commented an observer.

Oulimata Sarr spent several years at the International Finance Corporation, within the World Bank group, before joining the United Nations.
