DRC: protesters call for the departure of Minusco

Several inhabitants of the Democratic Republic of Congo demonstrated on Monday in the city of Goma, demanding the departure of the United Nations Mission in Congo (Monusco).

“Monusco said it was unable to protect the population against the M23, it must leave”, chanted the demonstrators on Monday July 25, 2022.

Angry protesters barricaded major roads and attacked bases of the UN Mission in the DRC.

After gaining access to Monusco bases, these demonstrators fled with property including furniture, computers, food… some property was recovered by the police.

Until late, the police faced resistance from the crowds and fired tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the demonstrators. Until then the balance sheet is not known but there would already be injuries.
