US: 80-year-old woman killed by two alligators after falling into pond

An 80-year-old woman died in the United States after being attacked by two alligators, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

The victim, whose name has not been released by the authorities, fell around 8 p.m. on Friday in a pond near a golf course and near his home, said the Miami Herald.

Authorities pulled the two alligators from the water. Florida’s state wildlife agency said it will work with police “on this investigation until the cause of death is determined by the medical examiner’s office.”

Several attacks in recent years

The American channel ABC points out that fatal attacks by alligators are “rare” in the United States.

Between 1948 and 2021, Florida reported 442 incidents involving “alligator bites,” 26 of which resulted in death. In 2018, a 45-year-old woman was killed by an alligator while walking her dog.
