Diplomacy: Ukraine appoints special representative for Africa

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Maxim Sobh as the country’s special representative for the Middle East and Africa.

The information was published on Tuesday on the Ukrainian Presidency website.

“Appointment of Maxim Sobh as special representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa,” the document reads.

A great state clerk, Maxim Sobh was Ukraine’s ambassador to Algeria from 2018 until May 2022 and was also in charge of Mauritania.

As a reminder, last June, President Volodymyr Zelenski promised African heads of state that he would appoint a special representative of his country in Africa.

Will this appointment weaken the position of the African Union, which is adopting a neutral stance in the war between Russia and Ukraine? The question remains.
