DR Congo now an East African country?

The Democratic Republic of Congo officially joins the East African Community (EAC) becoming the seventh country of the regional bloc.

Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs Christophe Lutundula presented the documents to EAC secretary general Peter Mathuki, who described the development as significant for DR Congo and the community.

Member states approved DR Congo’s request to join the bloc in April and the country’s parliament ratified the decision in June.

The country then becomes a member of the regional bloc.

The EAC said it would deploy troops to the country to end the violence in the east of the country.

It has 7 countries including Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and the newest member, DRC
