Health: Find out how many people have been affected by monkeypox so far

The World Health Organization (WHO) said laboratories around the world confirmed 5,322 cases of monkeypox, an increase of more than 50% from the previous assessment on June 22.

“WHO continues to ask countries to pay particular attention to cases of monkeypox, to try to limit contamination,” Fadela Chaib told a press conference in Geneva.

The health agency ruled last week that the current outbreak of monkeypox cases, although very worrying, did not constitute “a public health emergency of international concern”, the highest level of alert of the organization.

Europe remains the most affected region by the virus with 85% of cases. A total of 53 countries are now concerned.

The disease usually manifests with fever, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and rashes on the hands and face, like chicken pox.
