Ghana: end of mandatory face mask wearing in public

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo on Sunday announced the lifting of the mandatory wearing of wask masks in public citing a steady decline in Covid infections in the country and neighboring countries.

Ghana joins dozens of African countries that have eased most Covid containment measures.

President Akufo-Addo also scrapped the requirement for negative PCR tests for fully vaccinated travellers arriving in the country through the Kotoka International Airport in Accra from Monday.

The president however encouraged Ghanaians to continue observing enhanced hand hygiene practices and avoid overcrowded places.

But the World Health Organization has warned African countries leaders against easing restrictions against the coronavirus pandemic saying the restrictions were being lifted too soon.
