South Africa: schoolboy shoots down a classmate after a misunderstanding

A 16-year-old schoolboy in South Africa has shot down his classmate and killed himself after an alleged misunderstanding, officials said on Thursday.

The shooting took place on Wednesday at Lesiba High School in Daveyton, Gauteng province, as classes resumed for a new school year.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.

Mental health officials have been sent to the school to counsel those who may have been affected, local media report.
