Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa for an official visit as battle between federal troops and rebels escalates in the north.
Mr. Wang has been welcomed by Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is absent but the Chinese diplomat is expected to hold discussions with Mr Demeke.
China has previously highlighted its opposition to external “meddling” in the internal affairs of Ethiopia as the latter faces growing pressure from the US and some European countries over the conflict in the north and a worsening humanitarian crisis, BBC News reports.
