Uganda: two opposition MPs charged again with murder

Two Ugandan opposition MPs, Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya who were recently charged over a wave of killings, have once again been detained after receiving an additional murder charge.

The two members of the Ugandan parliament were arrested three weeks ago when police accused them of links to a series of killings in the central Masaka region.

They were granted bail, but were re-arrested after President Yoweri Museveni strongly criticised the releasing of anyone charged with a capital offence, the BBC reports.

The Ugandan opposition asks for their liberation as well as supporters arrested during the election period to be freed.
