South Africa said it can’t take in Afghan refugees as it is done by other countries. The announcement was made by the country’s Department of International Relations.
“South Africa is already home to a substantial number of refugees and is seized with addressing their needs,” the Department of International Relations said in a statement.
South Africa was reportedly asked to welcome Afghan refugees who were in Pakistan and on their way to other countries.
According to the statement, the refugees will be better served in Pakistan where they were first accommodated.
“The refugees will be best served by remaining in Pakistan, their first country of arrival”, it said.
