The first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine is 50% effective

While vaccination against Covid-19 should begin on March 10 in Togo, a study already shows that the first dose of the vaccine “AstraZeneca” provides 30 to 50% protection against the virus.

Very effective against severe forms of the Coronavirus, according to recently published studies, it is carried out in two injections spaced three weeks apart.

In total 78,000 Togolese will receive the jab and for this first wave, priority is given to health workers as well as people aged 50 and over, residing in Grand Lomé.

With the arrival of this vaccine, Togo is now on the short-list of African countries that have benefited from the COVAX initiative.

Let’s note that the country received 156,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on Sunday. The batch also contains 157,500 syringes, and 1,575 safety boxes
