During his visit Friday in the selected hospitals at Lusaka the Zambian capital, the minister of health Chitalu Chilufya has noted the total number of births on Christmas day. According to the latter, Zambia has recorded more than 1000 births on Christmas day.
Followed by the senior officials of the government, the minister has given Christmas baskets to mothers of “Christmas babies”.
This gift surrender would be an initiative of President Edgar Lungu to affirm his support to families and bring for the same occasion solutions to fight against maternal and child mortality.
According to a report by ZANIS, the Minister declared that the government is determined to accelerate the reduction of maternal and neonatal death in the country.
In his statement of 25th December, the Minister of health affirms that the fight against incidents during delivery remains one of the priorities of president Edgar Lungu. He states that the administration had made progress so that no mother dies during delivery.
“It is the vision of president Edgar Lungu that no woman or child should die during delivery. The government continues this vision of ensuring that maternal and neonatal deaths be reduced”, has he declared.
