The chairman of the Social Imberakuri opposition party in Rwanda, Bernard Ntaganda issued a warning to President Paul Kagame saying it is time for him to hand over.
The warning comes after President Kagame announced he intends to lead the country for another 20 years.
According to Mr Ntaganda, Mr Kagame’s announcement is bad news but not a surprise.
“It is not a suprise, but for us Rwandans, the entire opposition, it is really bad news because we know very well that Paul Kagame’s third mandate looks very much like a crisis at the end of a mandate,” he told France 24.
The opponent who is also planning to stand in the next elections urges President Kagame to leave.
“I think it’s time for him to pass on the baton and ensure an alternative.” he added.
