Former Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos is in a hospital in the Spanish city of Barcelona for emergency treatment, Portugal’s official news agency Lusa reported.
“[Mr Dos Santos], has been hospitalised in an intensive care unit in a hospital in Barcelona, where he has resided for the past few years,” Lusa said.
The report comes amid speculation over the health of the man who served as Angola’s president from 1979 to 2017.
In May, the 79-year-old ex-president responded to rumours about his death by slamming the “contradictory reports” about his health.
Mr. dos Santos clarified that his personal doctor was the only one authorized to speak on the matter.
