Nigeria: university lecturers abducted by gunmen

Six people including four lecturers have been kidnapped by armed men in the University of Abuja in Nigeria’s capital, the local police has announced.

The attackers invaded the living quarters of the university and abducted the victims in the early hours of Tuesday, the police said.

The armed men have reportedly overpowered guards at the institution before breaking into the lecturers’ homes.

On its Facebook account, the University said four lecturers and their children were taken away by the attackers.

The police reassured the population and said that the security forces had been deployed in a manhunt to try to rescue the victims and arrest the bandits.
