38 dead and 28 injured after two buses collide

At least 38 people were killed and 28 injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a minibus and burst into flames in the Kilimanjaro region of northern Tanzania.

The accident occurred, when a tire on the passenger bus burst, causing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane before it collided head-on with a minibus, and both vehicles burst into flames, reports stated.

Thirty-six (36) bodies could not be identified due to burns, while 22 of the 28 injured were released from hospital and six are still undergoing treatment.

The President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, offered her condolences to the families of the victims of this great tragedy and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, while urging all drivers to exercise caution and respect road safety rules.
