Nigeria: oil company executives sacked

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed the entire senior management team of the country’s national oil company, amidst the country’s crude oil production shortfall.

Nigeria, Africa’s leading oil producer, has been experiencing a production crisis in recent months.

“Restructuring the NNPC board is crucial to improving operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, stimulating local content, fostering economic growth and advancing gas commercialization and diversification,” said Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s communications advisor.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari, and the company’s Chairman, Pius Akinyelure, have been replaced.

The Nigerian oil company has for some time been the subject of allegations of corruption, political interference and mismanagement.
