In Ghana, former president John Dramani Mahama, leader of the Ghanaian opposition, is well placed to win the presidential election.
A recent poll puts him ahead of ruling party candidate Muhamudu Bawumia.
Mahama, 65, and Bawumia, 60, will vie for the presidency of Ghana on December 7 to succeed Nana Akufo-Addo, who is stepping down after two terms in office. Eleven other candidates are also taking part in the election.
The poll, published by Global InfoAnalytics, shows Mahama with 52% of the vote against Bawumia’s 41.3%.
According to the same poll, the economy, employment, education and infrastructure are the main concerns of Ghanaian voters.
During his presidency from 2012 to 2017, Mahama invested heavily in infrastructure. However, he was criticized for electricity shortages and economic instability.
His government has also faced accusations of corruption, although Mahama has never been directly implicated.
