At least 50 people died when a gold mine collapsed in the Howaid desert in Nile State, Northeastern Sudan.
The mine collapsed on Saturday June 28 in the Howaid desert in Nile State, reports said.
According to witnesses, large quantities of sand and rock collapsed on miners working on a rudimentary site known for its unregulated mining activity.
Rescue efforts were hampered by the absence of heavy machinery and professional rescue teams, which slowed the recovery of dozens of bodies buried under the rubble, reports stated.
A similar collapse occurred on the same site two months ago, leaving a number of people injured.
