Ghana: 500 displaced after heavy downpour

One person was found dead and over 500 people displaced following a heavy downpour in Kasoa, in the Awutu Senya East municipality, in Ghana’s Central Region.

Over 300 houses have also been submerged, and several properties destroyed.

The victim met his untimely death while crossing a wooden bridge on the Okrudu River, reports said.

According to reports, the deceased was washed away by the heavy rains, along with the wooden bridge on the river.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Seth Banini, confirmed the incident while expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Adom News said.

The body has been retrieved and deposited at the Police Hospital, while investigations are ongoing to identify his family members.

The Municipal NADMO Director, Nash Nyandey, revealed that several structures blocking waterways have worsened flood conditions in the area.
