Monkeypox: 5 new countries on the WHO list

The World Health Organization is maintaining its alert in the face of the mpox epidemic, considered to be a public health emergency of international concern.

This disease, caused by a virus in the same family as smallpox, has been reported since February in five African countries, including Ethiopia, Malawi, South Sudan, Tanzania and Togo.

Monkeypox, also known as mpox, causes high fever and skin lesions.

The WHO is calling for international support to deal with the disease, even though the response capacity of some countries has improved.

In the space of a year and a half, 25 countries worldwide have reported 37,000 confirmed cases of Mpox, 125 of them fatal.
