Sudan: humanitarian convoy attacked in Darfur

A convoy of some fifteen World Food Program and Unicef trucks delivering food and medical aid from Port Sudan was bombed near the town of El Fasher on June 2, killing five people.

The inhabitants of this town, besieged by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, no longer have access to certain basic services and are threatened by famine. Trucks carrying medicines and provisions were destroyed along with their cargo.

Paramilitaries and the army are blaming each other for the air attack.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an urgent investigation.

Under military control for the past two years, El Fasher is the last capital of Darfur to be disputed by the army and paramilitaries.
